The Construction series is based on ideas from the modernism. Bauhaus, De Stijl and others from the same period.

Pure and simple forms with basic and natural colours that seek visual balance by overlapping each other. All surfaces are vertical or horizontal. Sometimes, when I find my thoughts getting to entangled, the Construction series is what I use to straighten things up, clean my head and start anew with the basics.

D E C O N S T R U C T I O N

The Deconstruction series is the opposite of the Construction series. There are no guidelines, everything is allowed.

The ideology is based on Derrida´s philosophy but with my own personal approach, often with the dance as a base for the forms.

The Tango Chair and the Twist Cabinet are examples, the steel and the wood are dancing together. The more stiff tree formation, the man, leads the dance, but the woman is the supple and sexy one. They are always in danger of collapse.

T H E    F O U R     C O N C E P T S

I am a sceptic.  Therefore, my work with design and architecture is a research.

Where are the boundaries, what is possible to perform (accomplish)? What does the eye reflect on, and how does the gravity  react?

My way to the goal is often devious. I am not interested in creating a personal style or image. My scepticism is my driving force, I test forms and materials, and if it does not work I simply start again.

However, some structure is needed.  I work with four individual concepts, which I call:

CONSTRUCTION, DECONSTRUCTION,
CONSUMPTION   and   CONCEPTION.

C  O  N  S  U  M  P  T  I  O  N

The Consumption series is an attempt to symbolise the modern consumer society, though in a positive way. The Take a Way Lamp is a piece were the carrying bag has become a lamp. You only have to pull out the cord and plug it in.

The Plex Chair’s seat and back are made from recycled plastic and put on the steel frame like a pullover. The seat and back are one flat peace, so no expensive tools are needed, you can simply use a sharp knife

C  O  N  S  E  P  T  I  O  N

The Conception series is more personal, based on memories from my childhood and present surroundings. The school “Víkurskóli” is a ship, the children call it the submarine. When I was a kid, I often played in abandoned shipwrecks on the beach by the village (Glerárþorp) where I was born. I wanted to bring those surroundings to the children, because in modern society we tempt to overprotect them.
